Thankfulness is good for our hearts. Taking the time to remember our blessings, and to give thanks to God for them reminds us of what is important and how truly blessed we are. It also helps us to have a healthy outlook on ourselves and the world that we live in.
Yesterday was an excellent reminder of that for me. Staff meeting reminded me of how thankful I am for the people I work with. Giving away meals that were donated reminded me of how blessed I am, and that it is a privilege to give to others. An unexpected call reminded me to be thankful that God can turn surprises into blessings. All of those moments reminded me to be thankful for friends and family to laugh, pray, and serve with.
Pausing to give thanks also reminds us of how good God is. Retracing the good things in our lives is like rereading a letter from our Father that line by line tells the story of His great love for us. It’s easy to let the busyness of life distract us from taking time to do that, but then we miss out on the beautiful reminders of all the good things that we have in our lives.
I hope that tomorrow is a truly Happy Thanksgiving for you.
